A good Haynes manual for your car is only going to cost you about $ 15.00 at a decent auto parts store, or even a bookstore.

It means low oil pressure, which can be caused by not having enough oil in your engine. I suggest you check the level and top it up if it's low.

A 2011 Jetta is a great car. There is not better cars in its class when it comes to build and ride quality. Yes reliability was an issue in the past, but this is a new model with a new future. Go drive one and then drive a civic and it will all make sense.

You plans just changed: Never VW and never new.

VW's overall reliablility is mediocre at best.

Repairs & maint are very over priced.

A new vehicle will cost you about 15% of its value in new-vehicle depreciation.

Buy a Honda privately, 2-3 yrs old, lo mi, excel cond, still under, or eligible for, Honda's Factory Warranty, not a third party warranty.

If it's not a bumper to bumper warranty, be sure you can upgrade to that level. The powertrain/drivetrain warranties should be avoided: many exclusions.

Call about 3 Honda dealers' finance managers for details. Always get multiple opinions.

Buying privately will save you $ thousands. Most likely, the warranties' transferable. Or if no warranty, you can buy one from Honda. The prices vary, shop around.

That's what I did when I bought a Toyota Sienna mini van.

There was no factory warranty on it, but it was new enough w/ lo enough miles and in good enough condition [Toyota requires a pre-warranty inspection], that it was eligible for a Toyota Factory Warranty. I got copies of T's various levels of warranties from local T dealers' finance managers.

Dont buy anything w/o reading Consumer Reports, CR. http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/index.htm A non-profit testing organization. Free site for basic info. Also @ libraries & bookstores.

Honda ranks #1 in Consumer Reports for 2011. Subaru, Toyota, Volvo & Ford follow in order.

BMW and Mercedes were down-rated for reliability, with Mercedes in 10th place.

GM & Chrysler were 12th & 13th.

Vehicles were rated for performance, reliability, fuel efficiency and other factors.

Honestly, a GTI is great. Its a fun car to look at and even more fun to drive. There's nothing like rolling your windows down at a light and hearing your turbo spool as you take off. However, with that said, don't ruin it trying to turn it into a little euro ricer. If you want a super flashy, lifeless car that is only fast off the line, look elsewhere. The GTI has too much soul to be disgraced like that.
